The AstraZeneca Hope Lodge is a state-of-the-art facility that serves as a “home away from home” for cancer patients traveling more than 40 miles to their outpatient treatments.It is located in the Jamaica Plain neighborhood of Boston, just minutes from the city’s world-class medical institutions. There is no charge to stay at Hope Lodge, for either the patient or his or her caregivers.
In comfortable surroundings abutting Boston’s famed Emerald Necklace network of parks, patients and caregivers can discuss their experiences, share stories, eat meals together, and draw strength from one another. The Lodge provides approximately 14,000 nights of free lodging to cancer patients every year. A typical guest spends six weeks at the Lodge, saving more than $7,000.
Wheaton Sprague provided structural engineering and stamped calculations for the Nysan Sunshade System for the AstraZeneca Hope Lodge Project. Sunshades and other external shading systems not only deliver outstanding functionality, but also help a building surface create a distinctive look. Through shading the building facade they control the amount of solar gain thus reducing cooling loads while maintaining external vision and maximizing daylight
