Wheaton Sprague was contracted by the McGee Corporation to provide structural engineering services for the aluminum composite panel and stud framing at the entrance canopy for the reconstruction of the 200-bed Grace Hospital in Morganton, North Carolina. Renowned Health Care Architect, Cannon Design was the architect for the project.
The scope of the project included ACM fascia 4 column covers, as well as structural framing, made from cold form steel studs and track, supporting panels which were detailed to surround structural tube and fit between precast concrete panel. The use of cold form materials provided a lightweight substructure for the column cladding.
As part of Grace Healthcare System, Grace Hospital came together with Valdese Hospital in Valdese, North Carolina to form Blue Ridge Health Care System at the end of 1999. Although Blue Ridge Health Care System oversees the operations of both hospitals, each retains its autonomy, local governance, and community dedication.
